The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) approved that for intakes in and before 2010, the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering programme (Full Time) of the University of Macau will satisfy the academic requirements for Membership and the Scheme “A” Training in the Building, Geotechnical and Structural Disciplines subject to the following conditions:

Building Discipline:
Graduates for this programme are eligible for Membership of the HKIE and the Scheme “A” Training only if they have fulfilled the relevant top-up requirement.

Geotechnical Discipline:
Graduates must take either one of the elective courses (i.e. CIVL454: Design and Construction of Retaining Systems for Deep Excavation and CIVL454: Foundation Engineering), or a project involving geotechnical design.
Structural Discipline:
Top up courses are required which include the following:
(a) one course on Structural Design (minimum one elective from CIVL426, CIVL427 or CIVL458), and
(b) one course on Foundation Engineering (CIVL455), and
(c) either one course on Construction Management and Law (CIVL480) or one course on Management and communication skills (CIVL473)
