UM holds online Open Day to showcase characteristics of academic programmes

To enable students, parents, and friends from Macao and around the world to gain a better understanding of the University of Macau (UM), the university held the Open Day 2023 online today (15 January). Offering a number of live streaming events and various activities, the Open Day attracted many people with an interest in applying to or knowing more about UM. They joined the annual event through the internet to learn about the latest admission information, educational features, and research results of the university.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, UM Rector Yonghua Song said that the university in recent years has been optimising its disciplinary layout and academic programmes and has stepped up efforts to promote interdisciplinary research between different fields of arts (including humanities and social sciences) and science (including engineering and medicine). By creating and enhancing interdisciplinary programmes and establishing interdisciplinary research platforms, the university aims to foster innovation in teaching and research. In addition, the university has launched programmes in areas such as data science, cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, biomedical sciences, and public health, with the goal of promoting economic diversification of Macao and supporting the development of emerging industries. Through interdisciplinary integration, the university strives to nurture high-calibre interdisciplinary professionals required by the high-tech industry.
During the Open Day, students, parents, and friends from Macao, other parts of China, and overseas visited UM’s faculties, residential colleges, laboratories, and library virtually. They joined the online opening ceremony; various admission talks, programme consultations, academic/science talks, and exhibitions, including ‘Interactive Area for Information about ‘Blockchain and Financial Technology’, ‘Moot Court’, ‘What is Carbon Neutral? How to Realise it?’, ‘Intelligent Disinfection Robot Exhibition’, as well as online tours of the UM campus, among other activities. With a number of live streaming events, the Open Day showcased UM’s achievements in teaching and research and gave the public a peek into the educational features and campus facilities of the university. During the admission talks, students and parents were able to interact directly with UM representatives to acquire first-hand information on academic programmes and admission, and received instantaneous answers to their questions.

為讓澳門和世界各地的學生、家長和朋友加深對澳門大學的認識,澳大今(15)日在線上舉行開放日2023,進行多場直播和活動,吸引不少有意報讀和對大學感興趣的人士雲端參與此年度盛會,以了解大學最新的入學資訊、教學特色、研究成果等。
啟動儀式上,澳大校長宋永華致辭表示,澳大近年不斷優化學科及課程體系。當前,大學人文社科與理工醫科的交叉融合趨勢日益明顯,通過創建和優化跨學科課程、建設跨學科研究平台,推動教學和科研創新。為促進澳門經濟多元發展及培養新興產業,大學近年開辦了涵蓋數據科學、認知神經科學、人工智能、物聯網、生物醫藥、公共衛生等具學科優勢的特色課程,並通過跨學科交叉融合,全力培養高科技產業所需的複合型高水平人才。
活動期間,來自澳門和海內外的學生、家長和朋友“走進”澳大的學院、書院、實驗室、圖書館等,參與線上啟動儀式、入學講座、課程諮詢、學術/科普講座、多場直播等,例如“區塊鏈與金融科技"講座、“模擬法庭"、“什麽是碳中和,如何實現它?"講座、“消毒機器人展覽"、“遊覽澳大校園"等,藉此了解澳大的科研和教學成果、教學特色和校園設施。入學講座上,還有專員與學生和家長直接交流互動,提供“第一手”的課程和入讀澳大的資訊,並即時解答有關問題,助力學子圓夢澳大。

FST launches three new master’s degree programmes to nurture top scientific talents professionals
澳大新增三個全新碩士學位,為社會培養頂尖科研人才
To provide greater support to the diversified development of Macau and to promote the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao sci-tech innovation corridor, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) will launch three new master’s degree programmes in the academic year 2023/2024. The programmes will cover professional fields of artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous systems and coastal environment, with the aims of cultivating more high-quality talents for the Macao society, accelerate the development of emerging industries, and promote the transformation of Macao’s economic structure.
Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSc in AI) aims to develop learners within the AI discipline involving skills in technology, programming, data science, and information processing to respond to the ever-growing demand across industries for AI specialists. The programme also recognizes the interdisciplinary nature of AI, combined with analytics and large data volumes, creating an environment for AI to emerge as key technology for the future.
Master of Science in Robotics and Autonomous Systems Programme is designed to train students to learn robotics and autonomous systems engineering, which includes Advanced Robotics and Control, Intelligent Theory and Engineering Applications, Prognostics and Health Management of Engineering Systems, Mobile Robotics, etc. This MSc programme offers an advantage to its graduates in an increasingly competitive job market of robotics and autonomous systems.
Master of Science in Coastal Environment and Safety programme is designed to cultivate students with skills to work in specialized technical fields, to learn the principles and techniques of coastal environmental protection, as well as simulation and assessment techniques for threatening coastal hazards. Simultaneously, the programme will also provide training for students on their research skills, so as to serve students with various development path.

為了澳門適度多元發展提供必要人才支撐及推動廣深港澳科技創新走廊建設,澳門大學科技學院繼早年推出物聯網及金融科技後, 於2023/2024學年再新增三個碩士學位課程,涵蓋人工智能、機器人自主系統及海岸環境等前沿專業,針對性地為澳門社會培養更多高端產業人才,加快發展新興產業,實現澳門經濟結構的優化轉型。

理學碩士學位(人工智能)課程旨在培養人工智能領域的人才,涉及技術、編程、數據科學和信息處理等技能,以應對各行各業對人工智能專才不斷增長的需求。 透過此課程還可認識到人工智能的跨學科性質,結合分析和大數據量,為人工智能成為未來關鍵技術的創造條件。
理學碩士學位(機器人與自主系統) 課程旨在培養學生學習機器人技術和自主系統工程的技能,其中包括高級機器人與控制、智能理論與工程應用、工程系統的預測與健康管理、移動機器人等。 在競爭日益激烈的機器人和自主系統就業市場中,課程為畢業生提供了不少就業優勢。
理學碩士學位(海岸帶環境與安全)課程旨在培養學生從事專門技術工作的能力,學習海岸帶環境保護的原理和技術,以及用於應對威脅海岸帶災害時使用的模擬和評估技術,並同時兼顧培養學生的科研能力,以實現學生的個性化發展。
