Introduction
With the full support from the University of Macau Development Foundation (UMDF), the University of Macau has established the UMDF Named Professorships and the UMDF Professorial Fellowships as significant honours to outstanding scholars in various disciplines. The UMDF Professorial Fellowship Lecture is a new series under the well-received University Lecture Series. By inviting different professorial fellows to give academic lectures, we hope that academic exchange and interaction will be strengthened, making UM a better place to learn and study.
We are honored to have invited Prof. Changfeng GUI to speak at the upcoming lecture. Prof. Gui is the University of Macau Development Foundation Professorial Fellow of Mathematics, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Mathematics, FST, UM. He will speak on the topic “Mathematics and Its Applications: Fun and Challenges.” He will discuss the connections between geometry, phase transition and image processing, as examples to present the fun and challenges in mathematics.
