The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) is devoted to the enhancement of teaching quality and learning effectiveness, promotion of the internationalization of academic programmes, and alignment with the international standards. Upon receiving accreditation from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Washington Accord Recognition, graduates are eligible to participate in the Scheme “A” Training Programme.
Recently, two graduates from the Bachelor Programme in Electromechanical Engineering (EME), Ao Ieong Man Long and Lam Ka Fai took the lead in completion of two-year Scheme “A” training. They were awarded the certificate by HKIE and become the first two Macau graduate trainees in completion of the programme through local training. Both Ao Ieong and Lam are the graduates of the Bachelor Programme in EME in 2016. After graduation, they work as engineers in Engineering Department of Galaxy Entertainment Group (Galaxy Macau), and participate in the Scheme “A” Training Programme. Galaxy Macau is the first gaming operator in Macau accredited by HKIE to offer the Scheme “A” Training in Mechanical Engineering Discipline for graduates of Bachelor programme in EME of FST, UM. Currently, there are 8 EME graduates participating in this training programme. During the training programme, the trainees will undergo different on-the-job training through job rotation in the Engineering Department of Galaxy Macau. Moreover, the working hours accumulated in the 2-year on-the-job training are also recognized by HKIE, which allows trainees to obtain the international recognized qualification of registered engineers in a faster track.
The Scheme “A” Training Programme is developed by HKIE. It aims at providing registered graduate trainees with the opportunity to achieve necessary reinforcement of theory with practice to become a professional engineer. Upon the completion of the Scheme “A” Training programme, graduates from accredited Bachelor programmes will be eligible to become Corporate Member as a HKIE Graduate Member. In order to give potential graduates a deeper understanding of Scheme “A” Training Programme, FST and Galaxy Macau held a seminar about this training programme on 29 April 2019, and invited the current trainees to share their experience. Through close cooperation with the industry, FST looks forward to helping more graduates to obtain international recognized professional qualifications, and to train more quality professionals for the engineering in Macao.
