Prof. Andrey ROGACH from the City University of Hong Kong gave a talk entitled “Carbon Dot Luminophores” at the Faculty of Science and Technology on March 17, 2023.
Andrey L. Rogach is a Chair Professor in Photonics Materials of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Prof. Rogach joined the City University of Hong Kong in 2009. He is also the Founding Director of the Centre for Functional Photonics (CFP).
At the seminar, Prof. ROGACH shared the latest research results in the field of carbon dots. Prof. ROGACH presented that using an appropriate synthesis procedure produces samples of pure carbon dots of different sizes. Color-tunable fluorescence of CDs with blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and even near-infrared emission can be achieved, depending on the CD’s Size of π-conjugated domains in graphitic cores. In particular, Prof. ROGACH introduced the latest results of his research group, which extended the family of these luminescent colloidal carbon nanoparticles to other shapes, such as nanorods, nanoribbons, and nanoscrolls with linearly polarized emission. The use of CDs in luminescent solar concentrators has been demonstrated.
