University of Macau (UM) and South China Agricultural University (SCAU) jointly inaugurated the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Joint Laboratory of Marine Bioresource Conservation and Exploitation” recently, marking a significant step in strengthening marine biodiversity protection, sustainable resource utilization, and the promotion of marine ecosystem sustainability. The establishment of this joint laboratory represents a new milestone in collaboration between the two universities in marine science, fostering research innovation and talent exchange within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
UM Rector Song Yonghua said in his speech that emphasized the importance of the collaboration in advancing marine biology research and education, particularly noting that the cooperation will leverage the strengths of both universities to address key challenges in marine protection and sustainable development. President Xue Hongwei of SCAU expressed gratitude for the collaboration and outlined South China Agricultural University’s commitment to marine science, highlighting that the joint laboratory will promote interdisciplinary research and the cultivation of scientific talent.
The Joint Laboratory aims to integrate the scientific research resources of universities within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, leveraging each university’s strengths to focus on marine biodiversity conservation, achieving efficient and healthy aquaculture, and regulating the ecological environment of aquaculture. The inauguration of this joint laboratory will provide a new research platform for UM’s marine science research, having a profound impact on the advancement of marine science in the in the Greater Bay Area. The laboratory was jointly established by South China Agricultural University in collaboration with the University of Macau, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the City University of Hong Kong. Through multi-party collaboration, the laboratory aims to enhance its influence and inject new momentum into research.
Representatives from SCAU also included Zhang Jiaen, Dean of Development Planning; Wang Jianwu, Dean of the Undergraduate School; Wang Yingxiang, Dean of the College of Life Sciences; Liu Aodong, Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs; Zhang Zhe, Deputy Dean of the College of Animal Science; Representatives from UM also included Xu Cheng-Zhong, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Xu Jie, Head of the Department of Ocean Science and Technology and Interim Director of Centre for Regional Oceans; Li Yongjie, and Hao Tianwei, Associate Professors; Gao Liang, Cai Zhongya, and Wang Guangyao, Assistant Professors in the Department of Ocean Science and Technology.
澳門大學與華南農業大學為「海洋生物資源保護與利用粵港澳高校聯合實驗室」進行揭牌儀式,旨在加強海洋生物資源保護、合理利用及促進海洋的可持續發展。聯合實驗室的成立標誌著兩校在海洋科學領域合作的新突破,將深化粵港澳大灣區高校在海洋科學領域的協作,為區域海洋資源可持續發展提供科研支持,同時強化人才交流與技術創新。
澳門大學校長宋永華在致辭中強調,合作對推進海洋生物學研究和教育至關重要。他指出,通過結合兩校的優勢,可以更有效地應對海洋保護與可持續發展所面臨的挑戰。華南農業大學校長薛紅衛則對合作表示感謝,並介紹了華南農業大學在海洋科學領域的承諾,強調聯合實驗室將促進跨學科研究和科學人才的培養。
聯合實驗室旨在整合粵港澳大灣區內高校的豐富科研資源,以及發揮各校所長,聚焦海洋生物多樣性保護、實現高效健康水產養殖及水產養殖生態環境調控等。該聯合實驗室的揭牌將為澳門大學海洋科學研究提供新的研究平台,對粵港澳大灣區內的海洋科學的發展帶來深遠影響。該實驗室由華南農業大學攜手澳門大學、香港科技大學及香港城市大學共同建設,通過多方協作提升實驗室的影響力並為研究注入新動能。
出席本次揭牌儀式還有華南農業大學發展規劃處處長章家恩、本科生院院長王建武、生命科學學院院長王應祥、港澳台事務辦公室副主任劉傲冬、動物科學學院副院長張哲,澳門大學科技學院院長須成忠、海洋科學及技術系系主任、區域海洋中心代主任徐杰、海洋科學及技術系副教授黎永杰、郝天偉、助理教授高亮、蔡忠亞以及王廣耀。
