Mr. Ka-In Hoi, a PhD candidate from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau (UM) received the Second Prize of the Best Paper Award at the engineering sub-forum of the ‘1st Nanshan District Academic Forum of PhD Candidates from ShenZhen, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, 196th PhD Candidates’ Academic Forum’ with his paper titled ‘Time-Varying Models for Forecasting Summertime Daily Averaged PM10 Concentrations of Macau’.
Organized by the Graduate School of Tsinghua University, and the Association for Science and Technology of the Nanshan District of Shenzhen, the Forum was held at the Shenzhen University Library from 28 to 29 November. The topics of the Forum cover areas of engineering, electrical engineering and information science, and life sciences. This year, many universities have sent students to participate in the Forum, such as the Tsinghua University, the Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Harbin Institute of Technology, Xiamen University, Yunnan University, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the City University of Hong Kong, and the National Tsinghua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. UM has sent three PhD candidates to participate in this year’s Forum. Mr. Ka-In Hoi ,has passed 11 judges’ stern examination and was awarded Second Prize of the Best Paper Award in the engineering sub-forum. Mr. Hoi’s paper was written based on the results of the research project ‘Air-Quality Prediction by an Efficiency-Robustness Tradeoff Adaptive Model: A Study of Macau and Neighboring Cities’ supported by the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao SAR Government.
