The Macao SAR Government has recently announced the list of Decorations, Medals, and Certificates of Merit awarded for 2024. Mak Pui In, professor from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau (UM), director of the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, as well as deputy director of the Institute of Microelectronics, has been awarded the Medal of Merit for Education. This honor not only recognizes his outstanding achievements in the field of scientific research but also acknowledges his significant contributions to education.
Prof Mak Pui In earned both his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from UM. Over the past 20 years, his research has focused on analog and RF integrated circuit design, interdisciplinary science, and engineering innovation, earning him widespread recognition internationally. He was elected as an overseas expert of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2018, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2019, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2020, and an Academician of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (ACL) in 2024. Prof Mak encourages students to utilize the rich academic resources provided by the university to cultivate their interests and professional skills, to bravely face challenges, learn from failures, maintain patience, and achieve personal goals through persistent effort. Prof Mak’s work has not only enhanced the academic reputation of UM but also had a positive impact on Macao’s technology and education sectors. The laboratory he leads offers extensive learning and research opportunities for students, promoting their employment and further academic development in international research institutions, tech companies, and higher education institutions. This award of the Medal of Merit for Education reflects the Macao SAR Government’s high regard for and support of educational and research talents.
In addition to Prof Mak, several UM members are on the list. Lam Kam Seng Peter, chair of the University Council of UM, will be awarded the Decoration of Honour – Golden Lotus; Kong Chio Fai and Ma Chi Ngai, members of the University Council of UM, will be awarded the Medal of Merit – Professions; Iau Teng Pio, associate dean of the Faculty of Law at UM, will be awarded the Medal of Merit – Education. In addition, UM alumni Chan Ka Leong and Choi Sio Un will be awarded the Medal of Merit – Philanthropy and the Medal for Distinguished Service – Medal for Dedication, respectively.

澳門特別行政區政府公佈2024年授勳名單,澳門大學科技學院電機及電腦工程系教授、模擬與混合信號超大規模集成電路國家重點實驗室主任、微電子研究院副院長麥沛然獲頒教育功績勳章。此項殊榮不僅肯定了其在科學研究領域的傑出成就,也表彰了他多年來在育人方面的重要貢獻。
澳門土生土長的麥沛然於澳大取得學士和博士學位。過去20年,他的研究專注於模擬和射頻集成電路設計、交叉學科科學和工程創新,並在國際上獲得廣泛認可,先後於2018年當選中國科學院海外專家和英國工程技術學會(IET)會士、2019年當選美國電機和電子工程師學會(IEEE)會士、2020年當選英國皇家化學學會(RSC)會士、2024年當選葡國里斯本科學院院士(ACL)等。他鼓勵學生應該利用大學豐富的學術資源來培養自己的興趣和專業技能,勇於接受挑戰,並從失敗中學習,保持耐心,通過不懈的努力實現個人目標。麥沛然教授的工作不僅促進了澳門大學的學術聲譽,也為澳門的科技和教育領域帶來了積極影響。他領導的實驗室為學生提供了廣泛的學習和研究機會,促進了他們在國際研究機構、科技企業和高等教育機構中的就業和進一步學術發展。這次獲頒教育功績勳章,反映了澳門特別行政區政府對教育和科研人才的高度重視和支持。
澳大除了麥沛然教授獲頒教育功績勳章外,還有多位澳大人榜上有名,包括校董會主席林金城獲頒金蓮花榮譽勳章;校董會成員江朝暉和馬志毅獲頒專業功績勳章;法學院副院長邱庭彪。另外,校友陳家良和蔡兆源分別獲頒仁愛功績勳章和勞績獎章。
