Team led by UM scholars wins 1 gold, 5 merit awards at International Mathematical Olympiad
澳大領軍出戰數學奧林匹克　奪得1金5優異

A team of pre-college students from Macao, led by Assistant Professor Leong Ieng Tak and Senior Instructor Wan Lung Yam from the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), recently won a gold medal and five merit awards at the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Brazil. This is the second time that a team from Macao has won a gold medal at this competition. This year’s event attracted more than 600 students from 111 countries and regions. The six students in the Macao team come from Pui Ching Middle School, Hou Kong Middle School (Macao), and Kao Yip Middle School.

澳門大學科技學院助理教授梁應德與高級講師溫龍欽率領澳門代表隊遠赴巴西，參加“第58屆國際數學奧林匹克＂大賽奪得1金5優異的成績，是繼去年首次奪金後再度獲獎。

今屆比賽在巴西里約熱內盧舉行，全球超過111個國家和地區的600多名學生參與。代表澳門出賽的6名同學分別來自培正中學、濠江中學以及教業中學。其中來自培正中學的周昊天繼去年參賽奪金後，再一次勇奪金獎，成為澳門參加有關國際賽事26年以來的第二個金獎，而其餘5名同學均取得優異獎。

帶領學生參賽的澳大助理教授梁應德表示，澳門喜歡數學的學生很多，但能堅持的不多，希望未來培養更多對數學有興趣的學生。他稱一般通過一些本地公開數學比賽發掘有潛質的學生，關鍵是學校鼓勵學生參與，以及家長的配合。
