Michael Chu Hong Lam, a first-year undergraduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), has been elected an undergraduate student representative of the Membership Committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Instrumentation and Measurement Society in a global election out of thousands of members around the world. Chu is the only one from Macao to be elected an undergraduate student representative of this committee.
The IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society serves as the professional incubator for the growth of all (particularly younger) members and is dedicated to developing and using electrical and electronic instruments and equipment for measuring. The impact factor of the society’s journal is 3.067. The society also seeks to promote collaboration and exchange among its members to push for excellence in the area. Currently, the society has more than 10,000 members, with about 50 chapters and student braches worldwide. The committee is formed by professors and students at Xian Jiaotong University of China, the Missouri University of Science and Technology in the United States, the University of Sannio and the Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy, and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. As an undergraduate student representative, Chu will be responsible for assisting the society in formulating future development policies and developing award criteria.
Since secondary school, Chu has participated in many competitions and won many awards, including a second prize at the IEEE RFID Flash Competition in 2019, a first prize at the 14th Soong Ching Ling Junior Invention Awards in 2018, a gold award at China (Shanghai) International Exhibition of Inventions, a silver award at VEX Robotics World Championship, a first prize at 2017 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Robotics Elite Invitational Tournament, a gold award and the championship at Macau Tech Challenge 2017, a gold award at the 22nd National Exhibition of Inventions as well as a special award from the Baowu group, a first prize and a third prize at the 15th Guangdong Youth Invention Award, and a gold award at Kaohsiung International Invention and Design EXPO.
Chu is a member of the Wireless Communication Laboratory of the ECE, involved in studies of underwater communications, UAV wireless communication, and RFID measurement under the supervision of Prof Tam Kam Weng. He is also an active participant in STEM-related training and activities at UM’s Centre for Science and Engineering Promotion and provides assistance to STEM projects in local secondary schools and talent development programmes organised under the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund.
澳門大學科技學院電機及電腦工程系本科一年級學生朱康嵐,在經過國際權威工程學組織電機及電子工程師學會(IEEE)儀器與測量學會對全球大學生的層層選拔後,從過萬名會員中脫穎而出,最終獲選為IEEE儀器與測量學會委員會的本科生代表。朱康嵐是該學會本澳唯一一名本科生代表。
IEEE儀器與測量學會作為所有(特別是年輕)成員成長的專業孵化器,致力研究最前沿的電氣電子技術,開發相關的儀器和設備。該學會出版期刊的影響因數為3.067。該學會鼓勵成員間的合作和交流,共同尋求高水準的卓越技術。目前,全球有超過萬名會員,約50個地方分會和學生分會。委員會由中國西安交通大學、美國密蘇里科技大學、桑尼奧大學、意大利都靈理工大學和德國亞琛大學的教授和學生組成。作為該學會委員會本科生代表,朱康嵐需要對學會未來發展的方針,提出個人的建議,協助學會發展,同時也需要參與討論各個獎項的評分標準,以客觀地選出優秀的作品。
朱康嵐從中學起參加多項比賽,並屢獲獎項:2019年,IEEE RFID Flash比賽中獲大學組二等獎;2018年,第14屆宋慶齡青年發明獎比賽中獲一等獎、中國(上海)國際發明創新展覽會獲金獎、VEX機器人世界錦標賽獲銀獎;2017年,粵港澳大灣區機械人精英邀請賽中獲得一等獎、第二屆澳門機械人工程挑戰賽中獲金獎及錦標賽冠軍、第22屆全國發明展覽會獲金獎及寶烏集團特別獎、第15屆廣東省青年發明獎比賽中獲得一等獎及三等獎、在高雄國際發明設計博覽會獲金獎。
朱康嵐在大學學習生活中,加入了電機及電腦工程系無線通訊實驗室相關專案的學習,在澳大教授譚錦榮指導下,積極參與水下通信實驗、無人機通信實驗以及RFID測量等相關研究。同時,還積極參與澳大科學暨工程科普推廣中心的培訓和活動,亦會協助本地中學科普項目和澳門科學技術發展基金的潛能拓展計劃。
