Jiahao Ren is the first batch of UG student to graduate from the Department of Physics and Chemistry (DPC) of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). He received the “Dean’s Final Year Project List Award” for his research on perovskite solar cells. His project explained the importance of perovskite bottom interface engineering in improving the performance of perovskite solar cells from various perspectives, such as defect passivation, film morphology, and energy level alignment. He also demonstrated the research value of studying the bottom performance. In addition to thanking the Faulty for recognizing his efforts, he was grateful for the careful guidance of his supervisor, Prof. Guichuan XING, and fortunate to have found a suitable and innovative research direction. Ren dreams of becoming a scientist and technology entrepreneur. After graduating from University, he will continue to advance his studies and pursue a new learning journey
Choosing a Direction based on Interests
Ren is from Jiangxi and has had a strong interest in Physics and Science since childhood. He participated in various physics competitions, including the National High School Physics Olympiad in high school, and gained a certain understanding of related subjects. He believes that the study of Physics is of great significance for human technology and civilization progress. He chose UM is because of its excellent international environment, open research atmosphere, and using English as a medium of instruction that makes it easier for students to connect with overseas universities. Moreover, the DPC provides “project training” for undergraduate students. First-year students can choose their favorite professors according to their interests and strengths and conduct multi-faceted research exploration under the guidance of the professor’s research topic group. This novel interactive learning method impressed Ren and gave him a true understanding and appreciation of research.
Passionate with Science
Looking back on his four years of fulfilling university life, although he encountered many twists and turns in the process of exploring and experimenting in the laboratory, this experience not only became his learning and exploration experience but also strengthened his enthusiasm and will for research. Ren said, “During this period, the professors and senior brothers and sisters in the research group were very enthusiastic. I often sought their advice, and their care and support left unforgettable, warm, and beautiful memories of this exploration journey.” He has received six scholarships, six Dean’s Honor Lists, and one Rector’s Honor List. He also represented UM in China Undergraduate Physics Tournament to compete with top domestic universities such as Peking University and won the third prize. Ren constantly improves his research level. During his junior and senior years, he actively prepared for his Ph.D. studies and successfully published a first-author SCI Q1 article and a co-authored SCI Q2 article.
Received offers from top universities
He has received multiple offers for Ph.D. programmes from several universities, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is very grateful for the careful cultivation of the department’s teachers and the recognition of external professors. He said, “The professors in the DPC all graduated with Ph.D. degrees from world-renowned universities. They not only have strong research capabilities but also have great relationship with other universities. We are fortunate to be able to undergo research training in such favorable conditions in our undergraduate stage, which enables us to have research capabilities and qualities earlier, making it easier to be recognized and favored by other prestigious universities when applying for graduate studies.” As the first batch of UG graduates of DPC, he recommends younger students who aim to continue their studies to seize opportunities, make good use of the resources in UM, explore and contact their favorite professors early, and strive to achieve satisfactory research results or publish research articles if possible. In the future, he will go to Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to pursue his Ph.D. degree and continue his research journey, working hard to realize his dreams.
任佳豪是科技學院物理及化學系首屆本科畢業生,憑著鈣鈦礦太陽能電池的研究,成功奪得學系「優秀畢業設計項目獎」。他的項目從缺陷鈍化、薄膜形貌、能級排列等多個角度說明鈣鈦礦底介面工程對提高鈣鈦礦太陽能電池性能的重要性,同時證明瞭底部性能的研究價值。對於獲獎,除了感謝學院對自己努力的認可外,更感激其指導教授邢貴川教授的悉心指導,也慶幸自己找到了適合且具創新性的研究方向。夢想成為科學家及科技創業者的任佳豪,畢業後將精進學習,繼續其科研探索之路。
按興趣選擇方向
任佳豪來自江西,並自小對物理和科學有濃厚興趣,高中曾參與全國中學生物理奧林匹克競賽等比賽,對相關科目有一定瞭解。他認為物理學科的研究對於人類科技和文明進步有重要意義。他表示當初心儀澳門大學是因為其綜合實力強,具有良好的國際化環境及開放的科研環境,英語教學也令學生更容易銜接海外大學。此外,物理及化學系為本科生提供“專題研習”,大一學生可按自身志趣和特長選擇自己心儀的教授,並在教授研究課題組的指導下進行多方面的科研探索和嘗試。這種新穎的互動學習方式也令任佳豪眼前一亮,讓他對科研有了真正的接觸和認知。
對科研的熱忱
回顧四年充實的大學時光,儘管在實驗室不斷探索和嘗試的過程中遇過很多曲折,這段經歷不僅成為他學習和探索的歷煉,同時堅定了他對科研的熱誠和意志。任佳豪表示:「在此期間,教授和課題組的師兄師姐們很熱心,我經常向他們求教,他們的關懷及支持為我這段探索科研之旅留下難忘、溫暖美好的回憶。」過去曾獲六次獎學金,六次院長榮譽榜及一次校長榮譽榜,也代表大學參加中國大學生物理學術競賽與北京大學等國內頂尖大學較量並榮獲三等獎。任佳豪不斷精進自己的科研水準,大三至大四期間積極準備升讀博士,並成功發表一篇SCI一區的第一作者文章和一篇SCI二區的合著文章。
獲多間大學青睞
他有收到多間大學為他拋出的博士錄取橄欖枝,包括香港科技大學、香港中文大學及新加坡南洋理工大學,對此,他十分感謝學系老師的用心栽培和外校老師對他的肯定。他說道: 「物理及化學系的教授皆博士畢業於世界知名大學,他們不僅自身科研實力雄厚更受到學校為其配置的豐富科研資源。我們十分慶幸在本科階段就能在此優渥的條件下進行科研培養,使我們能夠更早地具備科研能力及素養,從而更容易在申請研究生時收到其他知名大學認可和青睞。」作為物理及化學系第一屆畢業生,他建議有志深造的學弟妹多把握機會,利用好學校資源,及早準備和聯繫自己心儀的教授,爭取獲得滿意的科研成果甚至發表文章。未來他將前往新加坡南洋理工大學升讀博士學位,繼續探索科研之旅,朝著心中的目標勇往直前,為實現夢想而努力奮鬥。
