Mr. Weng Kin CHAN, a UM Ph.D student from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, has been conferred the prestigious 2012 Young Researcher Award by the Instituto Internacional Macau (IIM), for his outstanding M.Sc thesis, which was jointly supervised by Prof. Chi Tat KWOK and Dr. Kin Ho LO. Mr. CHAN will receive his award in January 2013, and he will deliver a speech on his research work to the audience attending the award ceremony.

Mr. CHAN graduated with outstanding performance for his B.Sc and M.Sc in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D in Electromechanical Engineering. Over the years, Mr. CHAN has published several SCI papers and one book chapter. He was also the recipient of many academic awards and scholarships.

IIM is a local non-profit organization that aims to serve Macau. It was established in 1999 in Macau and is headquartered here, with representative office in Lisbon, Portugal. The Young Researcher Award was established in 2002, with the aim of encouraging young (under 30 of ages) students, teachers and those who specialize in creative work to explore ways that are conducive to Macau’s development. Those that have made outstanding contributions in this regard will be conferred the prestigious awards. The field in which Mr. CHAN has received applause lies in applied sciences.

澳門大學科技學院機電工程系博士生陳永健同學,榮獲由澳門國際研究所頒發的2012年度「青年研究者獎」。陳永健同學獲獎的作品為其碩士論文《熱處理和鐳射表面處理對不鏽鋼腐蝕行為的效應》。此碩士論文在郭志達副教授(主要導師)和羅健豪博士的共同指導下完成。陳永健同學將於下月在澳門國際研究所領獎,並會同場向出席的人士作出演講,介紹他的研究工作和成果。

陳永健同學分別在2009年和2011年,以優異的成績在澳門大學完成機電工程學士及碩士學位。目前,他正在攻讀博士學位。在澳大學習的這些年來,陳同學已發表了多篇SCI期刊文章和一篇書中章節。他也曾經獲得多項的獎項和獎學金。

澳門國際研究所(IIM)是一所長期服務本地的非牟利機構。它於1999年在澳門成立,總部設於澳門,在葡萄牙里斯本也設有代表處。澳門國際研究所在2002年設立「青年研究者獎」。設立本獎項的主要目的是為了鼓勵三十歲以下的青年學生、教師、及創意人士致力研究與深入探求澳門特別行政區的發展路向,並獎勵和表揚傑出的澳門研究工作,其中包括文物、文化和身份定位及應用科學等方面的範疇。陳永健同學本次獲獎的範疇屬於應用科學範疇。
